Some thoughts this afternoon

The Sox are away, so that means there is more time to blog:
I was there on the field at Fenway Park right next to buddy Rob Bradford when he got drilled and, let me tell you, Barry Bonds threw a rocket from the shortstop spot right into a group of us...not good times and Omar Vizquel definitely had a smirk on his face after Rob started doing the one-legged dance and hopped around in pain when the ball had struck him in the back of the foot.
In case you missed it, NECN's Mike Giardi had an outstanding interview with Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli on Sports Late Night and Chiarelli was very candid about the areas that Dave Lewis was lacking in and what he's looking for in a new coach...Good get Mike. You could say both good and bad things about this move for the B's: on the one hand I like that they're not afraid to make a move like this if they recognize that things aren't working but starting over with a new coaching staff is again going to cause a steep learning curve this fall during training camp.
It's called Bruins...let's see if it's called entertaining hockey come September. Back in a bit.
Here's a link to one of the great Q and A's that friend David Laurilia did with current NESN broadcaster Ken Macha about a whole course of subjects. Warning; it's on Baseball Prospectus and you must pay to subscribe but the info at the site is certainly worth the price to a baseball fan.
I wouldn't say that Macha is TV smooth quite yet (and I am certainly not one to talk or critique) but there's no arguing an ex-manager's perspective and the high level of both intelligence and preparedness the former Oakland A's skipper brings to the NESN post-game desk. He has been a great addition and he's one of the true gentlemen in baseball as well.
Off to buy one of those three-sizes-too-small T-shirts that the buff Tiger Woods wore at the US Open yesterday. Random thought: is Tiger on the Ed Hochuli workout plan?
