Joe, I like your stuff, but what is the magical "elusive force" about which you speak? The Red Sox actually scored more runs this year than in 2007. Did they have the "elusive force" that year?

I think the most painful thing was watching it slip away after I made my 4 year old son stand up and clap with the first 2 strike count in the 8th. After Vlad's hit I was sorry I had made him watch. I guess he is earning his stripes as a Red Sox fan.

Grove? Ruth? Who are they? Seriously, I meant in Boston's modern era. Given what Lester has accomplishes at 25 years old and the arm that he was blessed with, he's going to put up some pretty good arguments for himself provided he stays healthy.

--Haggs

Kazmir, to me, makes a huge difference if the Sox have to face off against the Angels, like it looks like they will. This year, I would say, is the Angels best year to take Boston down. I still give the edge to Boston, but will be a battle.

Hearing that last statement from Beckett really calms my nerves. With "wild card hopes" plastered all over the blogs today, knowing that our ace isn't thinking as to whether the team needs to win the pennant or settle for the wild card makes me feel great.

I still feel with 39 games left in the season we can win the AL East and not be written off for just the wild card. Hopefully a few wins will get everyone else turned around as well. Like Beckett said though, "one game at a time" just to "get into the playoffs", which is really all that matter. We've already done great things as a wild card team, all we need to do is make the playoffs. Either way we'll be playing NY in the ALCS anyway.
